The Murphy's will tell you they have been blessed in so many ways by their business' and the patrons that contribute to their store's sense of community.
Rick Murphy established his commercial roofing company in 1998 while Portia was employed by the state of Kansas. A few years later their daughter, Mitia was killed in a car accident. This event triggered Portia to quit her job so she could stay closer to home with her family. Shortly after she moved home they reopened the old mercantile in nearby town Stark, KS. Since then they have been expanding their work by opening a full menu restaurant, rental cabin, and antique shop. Yes, it is a lot to take on for a small family, but they know without God, friends, and family they could not have done it.
